Groundhog Day Activities for Kids: Unusual Celebrations Can Make Learning Fun!
It’s amazing how many fun days there are to celebrate across the world. One of our favorites began with a legend German immigrants brought to Pennsylvania with them. This story about weather forecasting, hibernating animals emerging from sleep became our Groundhog Day here in America—and now all eyes turn to Punxsutawney, PA each February 2.
On that day since 1887, people have watched to see if our favorite groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil will see his shadow or not. If it’s a clear, sunny day and he does, we can expect six more weeks of winter. And if it’s cloudy and he doesn’t see his shadow, we can look for spring to arrive early. You can read more about the legend behind groundhog day from the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club.
Your children can now join in the fun with our Groundhog Day printable pack—full of learning activities made especially for the day.
