Sensational Playdough Recipe for Kids to Make
Any parent knows that play dough is a fantastic way to keep kids engaged in play time. However, we also know that store bought play dough can be expensive. We have found that by whipping up a quick batch of homemade play dough, we can save money and enjoy it for days.
We have created a simple and frugal playdough recipe for kids made from scratch and added a special touch, glitter! Kids love glitter and moms enjoy it more IN play dough, not on the floor.
Not only does the glitter add an element of excitement to the play dough, but it also changed the texture. This play dough perfect for sensory fun! This recipe can be modified with different colors for more experimental enjoyment in your homeschool or preschool activities. We love the idea of pastels and using the recipe for spring doings.
Sensory play is important to your child’s development, calming, and can also aid fine motor development. We highly recommend incorporating sensory play in your homeschool or preschool to engage your students.
The Glitter Play Dough Recipe for Kids:
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup salt
1 tbsp. vegetable oil
1 tbsp. cream of tartar
2-3 drops green + pink food coloring
1 cup water
Iridescent glitter (Optional)
•Directions
In a large pot, combine flour, salt, oil, cream of tartar, glitter, and
water, mix well with a whisk.
Add a couple of drops of gel food coloring and mix
well.
Cook on medium-low heat, stirring constantly.
Play dough will begin to thicken
and eventually, form a thick ball of dough.
Pour your dough onto a surface to cool.
Once cool, knead your dough. If it is still sticky, add a little extra flour and
knead it in. Add more glitter and knead it into the dough if needed.
Enjoy!
Thanks for sharing! I was wondering, does the glitter come off on their hands? Thanks!
Hi Danica! For the most part the glitter sticks to the play dough, but as with most other glitter play doughs you might see a little glitter here and there. It’s lots of fun too!
