TEACH: Creating Independently Responsible Learners a Book by Dennis Dinoia

Many of us remember our favorite teacher from childhood, or worse, our least favorite teacher. Maybe you recall the teacher that made the most significant impact on you or influenced you to do something meaningful. Homeschooled children don’t always have any say-so when choosing their teachers. Usually, the primary teacher is mom, but all parents don’t have an equal passion for teaching every subject. So like many homeschool families, outsourcing some courses has a tremendous advantage.

Outsourcing allows your children to learn from teachers that have a gift and passion for teaching science or math. For example, I don’t have a passion for teaching subjects like science and math. So even though we homeschool, we have outsourced some courses through the years. That is a wonderful advantage for home-educated students; you can choose the exact teachers who inspire and influence them.

With that said, I have been highly cautious throughout my daughter’s homeschooling journey to ensure that she got to experience the best possible teachers available to us. Being able to carefully curate what courses, topics, and teachers my daughter comes in contact with has been an enormous blessing to our family. I love so many things about homeschooling, and that is just another incredible perk of home educating. You can handpick who, what, where, and when. In the long run, I believe the teacher (or delivery of learning material) t makes a difference in the education of our children.

So, I tell you all of this to spotlight one of our favorite teachers for home-educating math, Mr. D. Dennis DiNoia has written a book that I recently got the chance to read. I didn’t think we could like him any more than we already did until I read his new book TEACH: Creating Independently Responsible Learners. It is an incredibly valuable resource for home educators everywhere.

TEACH by Dennis Dinoia will shift how you think about education and equip you with new ideas and concepts for your homeschool. #education #homeschool #booksabouteducation #books #bookreview

Mr. D Knows How to Teach and Engage Homeschool Students

For years, Dennis DiNoia was a teacher within the public school system, and he eventually created an online math curriculum for homeschoolers. Mr. D is a well-known and extremely well-liked math teacher for middle school and high school level homeschoolers. He is one of our most memorable teachers, and he has left a great impression on my daughter, who is about to graduate.

If you have a middle school or high school student who struggles with math, you will definitely want to look into Mr. D Math. My daughter and I have had a long history of struggling with math until we found Mr. D. Now, she is finishing her last math credit and getting ready to graduate next year. I don’t think we could have made it through high school math without him. (Not at all exaggerating!) We have used Mr. D Math for Pre-algebra, Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II.

What You Can Learn From Dennis Dinoia’s Book TEACH: Creating Independently Responsible Learners

Mr. D has a great outlook on teaching and learning. In his book TEACH, he will share his own journey of teaching and learning how to engage high school students. But more than that, he will help you learn new ideas and concepts that you can use in your homeschool. Your views on home education may even shift!

Most parents who currently homeschool their children graduated from public school. And that means you may not know all you need to know about home education yet. If you are anything like I was when I began homeschooling, you might start homeschooling by replicating a traditional school setting at home. But unfortunately, that isn’t home education. You can educate that way, but you won’t get the most out of your homeschooling experience by copying what you know from the public school system. This I know from personal experience!

So one of the best ways to prepare yourself to home educate well is to research. By learning as much as you can about what home education can look like through reading books, listening to podcasts, and viewing workshops – you can increase your own knowledge about home education. Researching as much as you can is one of the best ways to ensure you are home educating your family well.
