Educational Games for Kids That Make Summer Screen Time Worth It

There is a version of summer that looks great on paper. Structured lessons every morning, a tidy routine, kids happily working through their materials.

And then there is actual summer. 😂

In our house, we still school through the warmer months, but we lighten up. We step away from the textbooks. We stop trying to replicate what fall and spring look like. And honestly? That shift has always made a big difference in how my kids feel about learning.

The trick is finding resources that do not feel like school, but still count as educational. That is where Education.com comes in.

Why Educational Games for Kids Work Better Than You Might Think

There is a common assumption that if something feels like a game, it probably is not doing much academically. That has not been our experience at all.

The educational games and activities on Education.com cover real academic content across math, language arts, science, social studies and foreign language. They are interactive, they are engaging, and they do not feel like busywork dressed up in a fun wrapper. They genuinely feel like educational games. That distinction matters when you are trying to get a buy-in from kids who just want to relax.

For us, swapping out video games or YouTube for educational games on Education.com has been one of the easiest low-effort wins in our summer routine.

How We Use Educational Games in Our Homeschool

We use it a few different ways.

On days when the kids want screen time, they play learning games on Education.com instead of being on video games or YouTube. The games cover real academic content but they genuinely feel like games. That matters when you are trying to make learning feel light. Yes, we still watch YouTube and play video games during the summer, but this helps us manage to do a lot less of it.

My son recently worked on fractions using their Flipping Pancakes interactive game and it was a hit. He had no idea he was doing math. That is exactly the kind of screen time I can get behind.

When a concept is not quite clicking, I pull a targeted worksheet from their library instead of digging through curriculum or buying something new. It takes about two minutes and covers exactly what we need. Use the build a worksheet option to make crosswords, word scrambles, and word searches on any topic all summer long. My kids love word searches so this is such a great resource to have access to over the summer, when ‘I’m bored’ can consume the days.

And on slow summer afternoons, it gives us something to do that is engaging without being a whole production. Just let the kids log on and let them choose what to get into.

Why Education.com Works Especially Well in Summer

The summer slide can be real for many students. Skills slip when kids step away from learning for too long, and then you spend the first few weeks of fall reviewing material you already covered. It’s always easier for us to maintain some type of summer learning rhythm so we can ease back into the new homeschool year with less stress. Educational games for kids are one of the easiest ways to keep things moving without it feeling like work.

Because Education.com has such a deep library, you can follow your kids’ interests rather than sticking to a rigid plan. That flexibility is what makes it feel like summer rather than school.

Whether you are doing a full summer schedule, a relaxed enrichment approach, or just trying to keep things from slipping, Education.com fits into whatever your summer looks like without taking it over.

And here is a bonus worth mentioning: Education.com works on tablets, phones, and computers. So if your family travels in the summer, learning can go with you without any extra planning or packing. We are big fans of using it on road trips and during travel days when the kids need something to do that is not just staring out a window. Road trip? Long flight? Waiting at the airport? It is all covered.
